I'd be interested in hearing what people do, in terms of manual grinders for espresso. One of my first grinders was (still have it, but is only on display, up above the cabinets) a hand-grinder. Plastic resin or some such material and generates quite a bit of static, noticeable after you open the drawer. Very nice fine/course control, though.

I've not though of using it for espresso but wonder, now, if it would beat my Gaggia MM (entry level burr grinder - just over $100 Canadian). My espresso maker is only a Breville Cafe Roma (thermoblock) so I don't really need Mazer level quality, but may pull down the old hand grinder for a try.

I've shifted somewhat to Aeropress over the past couple months (use same setting on the Gaggia as I do for espresso - 3 or 4 ticks off finest, depending on bean), making Americano-style cups, but am not convinced this is the best way to enjoy what I home roast. May go for a Chemex next - don't think I have the patience or time for a vac pot - and could certainly use the manual grinder for this preparation. Thanks for the prodding, 1oz Black!

My usual brewing is drip brewing, followed by moka pot.
I have a gaggia classic and mdf grinder for espresso.

When I use the classic, I use mdf.
But I am using the classic 1-2 times for a month.

Starbucks opens its first 'un-Starbucks' store, 15th Ave Coffee & Tea

At 6:00 am on Friday, the doors opened to Starbucks first “un-Starbucks” store on Capitol Hill in Seattle. It’s called 15th Ave Coffee & Tea and upon first glance, you would never know it was a Starbucks. There isn’t a green siren logo to be found anywhere. The only thing giving away the true identity of the corporate owner are the words “inspired by Starbucks” strategically placed around the

Idle thoughts... from an idle mind

Did you know?
Costa Rica is the only country in the world which has issued an executive order banning the production of any variety of coffee other than Arabica. This standard is made possible by the expertise, experience and favorable physical conditions found in this remarkable land.
I'm going to Costa Rica soon!

Computers and coffee roasting do NOT mix. How many burnt batches of coffee before I follow that rule?
